Dr Renée Blaauw obtained her PhD (Nutrition) degree from the University of Stellenbosch in 1998. At present she is a consultant Dietitian in Private Practice and part-time senior lecturer in the Department of Human Nutrition, University of Stellenbosch.

She has delivered 61 scientific papers and produced 32 publications locally and internationally. She was a member of the Health Professions Council of South Africa and Chairperson of the Professional Board for Dietetics for the period 1999 – February 2004. She is currently President of SASPEN. Her main interests include: Nutritional management of gastro-intestinal diseases; Enteral and parenteral nutrition; Micronutrient malnutrition; Diabetes Mellitus and Endocrinology
